Jim's Pool Care was established in October 2003 when owners of Perth Poolshop, Julie and Peter Velzen, decided they wanted to expand nationally.

Julie and Peter looked at different franchising models when they came across the Jim's Group. The more research they did into the Jim's Group the more impressed they were. Not only would joining the group provide expertise in franchising but it would also provide instant brand recognition on a national basis.

Julie and Peter spoke with Jim Penman at length and spent a week with the Group before entering into an agreement to establish a new division for pool and spa care, Jim's Pool Care. Jim's Pool Care was Jim's thirty-first division and first Jim's branded retail outlet.

Perth Poolshop was established in July 2000 as a mobile pool business servicing commercial and residential pools.

Perth Poolshop's first retail outlet was opened at the Belridge Shopping Centre in Western Australia in November 2001. After a bumper season and another 'too good to let it go' location became available a second retail outlet was opened at the Kingsley Village Shopping Centre also in Western Australia in November 2002.

Initially service work was undertaken by Peter but the retail outlet at Belridge Shopping Centre did so well that a staff member was employed to complete service work.

Following in their mission to provide excellent service to pool and spa owners and to exceed their expectations a decision was made to sell a mobile service van to ensure that all customers received service from someone with as much passion as Julie and Peter.

Retail outlets have been designed to be refreshingly different from other pool shops. They are bright and modern and were designed to stand out from the crowd. Staff in retail outlets are trained to go the extra mile for customers and word of mouth has proved this to be a successful and very worth while effort.

About the Jim's Group

Yes there really is a real Jim behind the Jim's Group! The real Jim, Jim Penman, started Jim's Mowing (orginally Balwyn Gardening) in December 1982.

Jim originally aimed only at taking on subcontractors but his business grew and he gradually began to specialise in the building up and selling of lawn mowing rounds - more than one hundred over several years.

With time Jim increased the number of services to contractors, including replacement of lost jobs, training, brochures, seminars, better deals on equipment and insurance, care-taking of rounds in case of illness or accident and so forth. The change to a franchise in mid 1989 was thus no more than an extension of the existing business.

The growth of Jim's Mowing since then has been rapid. From being small and relatively unknown, it has become the largest and best known lawn mowing business in the world.

There are now branches throughout Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Canada. Jim's Cleaning was launched in 1994 and Jim's Dog Wash in 1997. Today there are more than 30 divisions ranging from book keeping, antennas, flooring, security doors, paving to cleaning consisting of more than 2200 franchisees.

Jim says the key to success has been a consistent concern for the welfare of both franchisees and customers. Most franchisees are in direct phone contact with the national office or their admin centre every week, if not more often.

Jim is still actively involved in the running of the business and it is not uncommon when you call the 131 546 phone number to have Jim answer your call.
