After graduating from Uni with a Bachelor of Engineering degree and working for 22 years as engineer and project manager in various companies, a lifestyle change seemed like a good idea. I wanted to work for myself and was looking for something that would offer a good balance between work and family time at as little risk as possible, hence I investigated multiple business opportunities.

I enjoy being part of a structured, well managed and growing system, but most of all, being in control of my own time. I decided that franchising offered a safer way to get into business for myself. I sorted through the better known franchises and found that the Jim’s Pool Care group certainly offered what I was looking for.

I had been in Customer Service roles in the Computer Industry for most of my working life and had sold a service bureau and software development business in 2001. I continued working in that business for the new owners but knew that I had to get out and start something new.

I felt that at my age (mid 50’s) I wasn’t going to find employment easily and that buying into something was going to be the only way to have a chance to continue to pay the mortgage and support my family.

I came across Jim’s Pool Care quite by accident at a Sydney Franchise & Business Opportunity Expo.

I knew I was good at Customer Service, but there was also the uncertainty about what happens in Winter. My initial interest was in just buying a franchise, but discovered that there was a Master Franchisor opportunity.

As I had run businesses already & also had some involvement with a franchised business ( as an Operations Manager ) I became the Regional Franchisor for Sydney North West.

That was all well and good, but I still had to make a quid to pay the mortgage, so I set about building up an operational franchise, providing Pool Care services in Sydney’s North West. I’ve done pretty well at that, with a thriving operation with a couple of staff and a couple of vehicles on the road. My initial concerns about finding customers and Winter work load, turned out to be non issues. There are plenty of people who need help with their pools.

Being a part of the Jim’s Group, is a good place to be. There really is a genuine focus on customer service and excellence. Don’t bother trying to join into this if you don’t share that passion to do a great job and are not totally committed to excellence.

One very positive thing that has happened with Jim’s Pool Care, is that one of the Regional Franchisors I did my initial training with, has ended up buying the Jim’s Pool Care National Franchise. He has a passion & commitment which is having a wonderful effect on the Pool Care Division and seeing it embrace inspirational change for the better. We now have great co-operation of the body of Regional Franchisors around the country and Jim’s Pool Care is an even better place to be.
