Electric Pool Heating
Does Pool Heating cost lots of money?

That is a great question and one that depends on several factors:

  1. What type of pool heating you choose
  2. What your requirements are to heat the pool
    • Heat on demand
    • Heat all year round
    • Heat from the sun
  3. Your access to Gas and/or Electricity
  4. What your budget is
  5. What price you put on investing in your pool to get maximum value from it
    • Eg.  Average domestic pool that costs $35,000 and gets 12 weeks swim time per year could double their swim time with a $4000 pool heating investment…
Your guide to keeping your pool heated

When it comes to keeping your pool heated, there are two main issues to consider. First of all, it’s important to make sure that the heating mechanism is reliable. There’s nothing more frustrating (and costly) than having to deal with equipment breakdown and poor performance. Secondly, to save energy, your pool should be heated in the most efficient way possible. Not only is this great for your bank account, it’s also good for the planet.

Pool heating

If you want to get the most out of your pool – all year round – pool heating is one surefire way to do it. After all, a pool is a significant investment. So limiting use to only hot, summery days doesn’t maximise ‘bang for your buck’. With warm, dependable water temperatures, however, you and your family members – be they young or old – will feel like swimming much more often. A heated pool can become an essential part of your exercise and leisure routine.

Solar pool heating

Given that Australia experiences plenty of sunshine, solar pool heating is definitely a viable option. In fact, with rising electricity bills and increasing concern about climate change, more and more people are turning to solar. It’s a free, endless source of energy, so you can heat your pool through every season without having to worry about your bank account taking a dive. Plus it doesn’t leave a carbon footprint, meaning that you can use your pool as much as you like while knowing that you’re contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment.

Solar pool heating usually works through a combination of a switch controller and a solar pump. You use the controller to set a desired temperature and, as soon as it drops, the controller sends a message to the pump. It, in turn, sends sun-warmed water to the pool, until the temperature has righted itself.

Electric pool heat pump

It might not be free or quite as environmentally-friendly as solar pool heating, but an electric pool heat pump is still an efficient option. They are available in a wide range of sizes, so you can choose a pump to suit your particular pool and specific needs. You need something that’s big enough, but there’s no point in wasting money and energy on an over-sized piece of gear. Figure out your pool’s capacity and how often you’re planning on heating the water, and choose the product that’s best for you.

Another benefit of an electric pool heat pump is that you can switch it on and off, according to when you need it. So you can run it fairly continuously during ‘peak periods’, then choose not to use it all when the pool isn’t needed. You only need to pay for the electricity that you’re actually using, which means that you can stay in control of your bills. It’s also much better for the environment, because energy isn’t being wasted.
