BIG Congratulations to Wayne from Jim’s Pool Care Safety Bay!

Professional pool care service near Safety Bay, technician cleaning backyard swimming pool with equipment.

Wayne recently won the Best Mobile Service Business WA and the SPASA Training Excellence Award at the recent SPASA Australia Awards! Well done and well deserved. We had the chance to sit down with Wayne and ask him a few questions about his success and his business:

1. What inspired you to start this business, and what keeps you motivated today?

I have always wanted to have my own business but was unsure of how or what that would look like. I’ve always found it fascinating how entrepreneurs work and grow their businesses.

I had an online business to start with and did pretty well, but I knew I needed something more traditional and started looking at different businesses for sale in Perth & franchises.

Jim’s stood out to me the most because of how not greedy they are and how much they look after their franchisees.

Since Covid I researched how many pools went in around Perth and I thought there was no way near enough service techs to supply all that demand so I gave Jim’s pool care a call and it went from there.

What motivates me to keep going is the rush of getting new customers, converting leads into customers, completing a job and seeing the transformations both with equipment & the pool itself, seeing the customers genuine gratitude for fixing their problem & for keeping their pool in pristine condition, learning new skills, the feeling of accomplishment, watching my business go from 0 customers to over 100, watching my business grow from literally nothing to what it is today all really makes me keep going & striving for more. I would say it’s like an adrenaline rush that pushes you more & more each day, week, month & year.

2. What were the biggest challenges you faced on the path to this achievement, and how did you overcome them?

My biggest challenges I faced were-

1) Going from knowing absolutely nothing about a pool or the equipment & learning it all in such a short period of time.

2) Also knowing very little about how to operate a business let alone make it successful.

3) Work life balance as when I first started I took on every single lead I could in any area and didn’t have much of a life for a while there.

I over came them by-

1) Being on the road with my franchisor Simon and a couple of other franchisees like Paul & Justin and really soak up everything I could and ask lots of questions. Studying my operations manual every night to really gain as much knowledge as I could. Calling my franchisor or other franchisees when I needed help.

And just really going out there on my own figuring it out for myself was one of the best teachers.

2) I surrounded myself with like minded people within business like friends that own businesses, franchisor Simon, other franchisees, studying & reading everything business, meetings with my accountant & bookkeeper, other customers that own businesses, basically learning as I went along and learnt from my mistakes.

3) With time on the road you learn to become more efficient with your time, for example- I would group all the customers in the same area or close by on the same day to cut down on travel time.

The more experience I got with pools, the more efficient I became working on them. Leading to less time on the road, giving me more work life balance.

3. What does winning this awards mean to you?

Winning these awards mean so much to me because all the hard work I put in is being recognised which motivates me to just keep getting better, growing my business & accomplishing more of my goals.

4. What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs striving for excellence?

My advice would be to set goals in place, both small & large and celebrate your wins when you do accomplish even the smallest of goals.

Never be afraid to ask for help, guidance or advice when it comes to anything. Ask questions, read, listen, surround yourself with like minded people, people that lift you up & motivate you to become better.

Enjoy the process, even when you feel the road is long, just be patient and keep your eye on the prize while heading in that direction.

And most importantly- BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!

Self doubt killed more dreams than failure ever did.

Always remember that believing in yourself is a superpower!
